For more than 70 years, Welcome Stadium has served as a center for athletics and community events in southwest Ohio. Home to Dayton Public Schools athletics, the University of Dayton football program, and numerous state and regional competitions, the stadium has long been a centerpiece of the community. Dayton Public Schools’ \ $32.5 million campus transformation modernized the aging facility to serv e athletes, spectators, and the community for decades to come.
Motz Engineering provided commissioning services as part of the design-build team, helping verify that critical building systems performed as intended throughout the extensive renovation. The project included new underground utilities, upgraded field and track facilities, renovated grandstands and concourses, expanded restroom and concession areas, new locker rooms, a service building, and an 80-foot-tall press box featuring hospitality, media production, and event operations spaces.
Because Welcome Stadium remained an active venue with a demanding construction schedule, system performance and operational readiness were essential. Motz Engineering worked alongside the project team to support the successful delivery of new and renovated building systems, helping ensure they were fully functional before welcoming thousands of athletes, students, and spectators back to the facility.
The revitalized stadium now provides Dayton Public Schools and the surrounding community with a modern venue designed to support football, track and field, community events, and championship competitions while preserving the legacy of one of Ohio’s most recognizable athletic landmarks.
Successfully renovating large public venues requires more than exceptional design and construction. Commissioning helps verify that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, life safety, and other critical building systems are operating together before opening day. Early testing and performance verification reduce operational risk, improve occupant comfort, and provide confidence that complex facilities are prepared to support years of events with reliable performance.
The Welcome Stadium renovation demonstrates Motz Engineering’s experience commissioning complex sports and entertainment venues where operational readiness, building performance, and the visitor experience are equally important to project success.
