Outpatient healthcare facilities must provide dependable building systems to support clinical services, patient comfort and day-to-day operations. As part of the Martha Morehouse Facility Improvements project, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center renovated and expanded an existing outpatient facility to enhance patient care, improve clinical operations, and create a modern environment for future growth while carefully managing the transition into continued healthcare operations.
Motz Engineering served as the Commissioning Authority directly for the owner, guiding the project from design through occupancy. Services included development of the Commissioning Plan, drawing and submittal reviews, construction schedule reviews, pre-functional testing, functional performance testing, issue tracking with CxAlloy, troubleshooting support, and project closeout to verify systems performed as intended.
The 112,000-square-foot project included approximately 105,000 square feet of renovations and a 7,000-square-foot addition supporting pulmonary rehabilitation, urgent care, and outpatient clinics. Through close collaboration with the owner, construction manager, design team, and contractors, Motz Engineering helped resolve system issues and support a smooth transition into healthcare operations.
For healthcare owners, commissioning provides confidence that building systems are ready before patients and caregivers depend on them. Early planning, structured issue tracking, functional testing, and collaborative troubleshooting reduce operational risk while helping facility teams successfully operate complex buildings for years to come.
The Martha Morehouse Facility Improvements project demonstrates Motz Engineering’s commitment to commissioning services that improve operational readiness, support healthcare staff, and maximize long-term building performance.
